A Chicago Tribune report says that the top Federal prosecutor in Chicago, Patrick Fitzgerald, has threatened to sue publisher HarperCollins because ”one of its books about the prosecution of terrorism cases ‘defamed me and placed me in a false light.’”

The book in question is a new edition of the 2006 book Triple Cross, by Peter Lance, which carries the whopping long sub-title, How bin Laden’s Master Spy Penetrated the CIA, the Green Berets, and the FBI–and Why Patrick Fitzgerald Failed to Stop Him. Hmm, nothing to draw his attention there …..

According to the Tribune, Fitzgerald told Harper Collins that “if it publishes the book this month and it defames him, he’ll sue the New York-based company.”

Fitzgerald has been the prosecutor for many high-profile cases, including the Valerie Plame affair which led to the prosecution and conviction of Dick Cheney’s Chief-of-Staff Scooter Libby, and the investigation that has led to the arrest of Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich.

HarperCollins, Patrick Fitzgerald, HarperCollins, Patrick Fitzgerald, HarperCollins, Patrick Fitzgerald … smart money’s on Pat ….
