People who work in the publishing industry are among “the heaviest drinkers” according to a report by Tom Peck in The Guardian. Peck says Britain’s Department of Health found via a survey of drinking by profession that the worst offenders were those in the “media, publishing and entertainment sectors,” whom the survey says “consume an average of 44 units a week, almost twice the recommended maximum amount of three-to-four units a day for men, and two-to-three for women.”

In case you’re wondering: the runners-up were: “IT support workers.” The most sober? “Reassuringly, drivers and —- perhaps surprisingly —- teachers are the professionals most likely to monitor their alcohol intake and are England’s most moderate drinkers.”

Of course, these figures could be completely skewed: “No figure was given for MPs.
