In an awkward yet amusing correction on the New York Times Arts Blog, readers were surprised to learn that David Remnick, editor of the New Yorker, did not say that his new book on Barack Obama, The Bridge, would be a “pimped out” version of an earlier article he wrote on Obama for the New Yorker. Rather, he said it would not be a “pumped up” version of his earlier article.
The description of The Bridge, forthcoming from Knopf, actually sounds more like a tricked-out version to me: “The publisher said the book will also include previously unpublished letters by Mr. Obama as well as by his mother, Stanley Ann Dunham Soetoro.” And the Times blog notes that, “There is also an epilogue that contains an interview with Mr. Obama conducted at the White House.”
The book will be available April 6th, so we’ll hold off final judgment until then.
