Television station KIIITV reports that Corpus Christi police are investigating an attempt to put 3 oz. of cocaine in the spine of a book with the intention of smuggling it into a Texas prison.

According to the report, “The discovery was made Tuesday afternoon at the Corpus Christi Barnes and Noble. According to police, a man in his late 30′s entered the book store, asked to ship several books to an inmate, then when the suspect left, a store employee found a package of cocaine in the spine of a Webster’s dictionary.”

Apparently, there has been a rash of dictionary buying for these nefarious purposes. “In the last few months,” police told KIIITV, “they’ve encountered four of these cases with someone attempting to ship off drugs to the Darington prison unit in Rosharon, Texas.”

All the incidents are still under investigation. What the suspect needs is a nice box set of the OED, $235.25 at Barnes and Noble.

I assume that any sudden surge in dictionary buying is immediately detected at FBI headquarters. Because that’s the very definition of suspicious activity.
