Time for Kindle and iPad to worry about Android?

Okay, Google eBooks is finally here, and everyone’s talking about what it means for retailers who have joined up with Google to put themselves out of business sell ebooks. But what no one’s talking much about in public — but talking about little else in private over the big house water cooler — is what this means for e-readers. That is, are Android readers about to become a force to be reckoned with? (Wouldn’t that explain the reaction of Amazon on the day of Google eBooks’ release?)

Here’s a first glimpse at how Google eBooks works on an Android device …

    Though I joke with children — and grandchildren — about my failure (reluctance? inability?) to share their enthusiasm for the gizmo du jour, I don’t consider myself a Luddite, a technophobe, a troglodyte.

    I didn’t, that is, until I watched/listened to this video. About seventy percent of the time, I had no idea what he was talking about.

    So my dilemma, doctor, is this: Shall I summon those bright descendants to tutor me in gizmology, or shall I investigate pre-payment plans at local funeral homes?
