A Digital Trends reports says that ASUStek Computer, Inc. is launching an e-book reader in March 2010 which is fabulously souped up. The new reader will include 3G, Wi-Fi, and WiMAX mobile technologies and will have a similar price point to Amazon’s Kindle and Sony’s E-Reader.
A Taiwan Economic News report says that the device is targeting the American and European consumer, and “trial versions of e-books will be offered to Taiwan`s charities before commercialization, with the e-books to go to market as generics and branded models.”
No one is quite sure what it will look like, but according to Digital Trends “industry insiders say one will have a 6-inch e-ink display and a second model will have a larger, less typical 9-inch double panel display.” And executives for the firm said that they will introduce more product as the coverage of the WiMAX networks expand.
According to the Taiwan Economic News, “The maker has shipped WiMAX equipment to WiMAX-service providers in Russia, Australia, Latin America and Europe, as well as introduced WiMAX-enabled notebooks in cooperation with service provider Clearwire of the United States.”
